Keyword: Testing RF devices with cables used for maintenance

First Category: Administrative Procedure
Second Category: Other [Administrative Procedure]

Question:   What are the Equipment Under Test (EUT) configuration requirements for emission testing of devices with cables, which are absent during normal operation and are connected only temporarily (for maintenance, initial installation, preprogramming, repair, adjustment etc.)?

Answer:   See the procedures in ANSI Standard C63.4-2014 for arrangement of the EUT. Cables that are used only temporarily for maintenance, repair, adjustment, etc. need not be connected to the EUT during compliance testing. Cables that are used during normal operation, whether permanently connected or not, must be connected to the EUT when performing the emission measurements. (See ANSI C63.4-2014, clause 6.3.1.)
