Keyword: Part 2.1033, Part 2.1049, License Transmitters, average measurements

First Category: Radio Service Rules
Second Category: Certification

Question:   For licensed devices, is it acceptable to use a reduced video filter technique to simulate average measurements rather than using an average detector?  For example, the spectrum analyzer is set to to 100 kHz RBW with the VBW set to 100 Hz..  This technique is done in order to smooth out the spectral signature.

Answer:

No, it is not acceptable to simulate average measurements with a reduced video filter (VBW). Always use, the appropriate detector (average, peak, normal ,sample, quasi-peak) when making measurements for licensed devices.
