Explanation
Please explain in the area below why an STA is necessary:
SES Americom Inc. respectfully requests to extend its experimental Special Temporary Authority through January 4, 2024 to be able to test and demonstrate the efficacy and capabilities of the Planet Labs Quadrifilar Helix and the Optisys Horn Array antennas.

Purpose of Operation
Please explain the purpose of operation:  The Planet Labs Quadrifilar Helix antenna will communicate with SESs NSS-9 GSO spacecraft located at 177 W.L. using the 6.307 and 6.423 GHz uplink C-band frequency bands. The Optisys Horn Array antenna will communicate with the O3b mPOWER non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) constellation using the Ka-band center frequency 29.0975 GHz. All operations in these frequency bands have been coordinated in compliance with 47 C.F.R. § 101.103(d). SES has completed the coordination process and has attached the coordination report as Exhibit 1. Grant of the requested authority is in the public interest as it will allow SES to evaluate and demonstrate the ability of these antennas to support critical satellite communications, such as for NASA’s future commercial space relay missions.
