I write to you today to get an update on that transition and to understand what the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is doing to make sure that the transition occurs seamlessly and without disruption to public safety, law enforcement, industry or the general public in Florida. In particular, I want your assurance that no Floridian will be harmed as part of this process. Given that this initial transition in Florida and the Southeastern part of the United States is scheduled to occur in a matter of weeks, I would like you to answer the following questions: • How will the FCC determine that the new LNP A database is ready to take over from the old database on April 8? • Who will make that final decision and authorize the beginning of the transition? • How will the FCC evaluate how well the new database is performing? • Will the FCC have staff positioned in Florida to monitor the transition? • Will it have dedicated staff at the FCC whose sole responsibility is to monitor the transition and respond to problems? • Should problems arise with the transition, what is the process for notifying the relevant parties and the FCC about those problems and resolving them? • How will affected individuals or entities be informed about problems with the LNP A database transition? • How will any harm to those affected persons or entities be addressed? • Who will make the determination regarding how problems with the database transition will be resolved, including the need to halt the transition? 237 The Honorable Ajit Pai March 23, 2018 Page 2 • In your February 2, 2018, letter to the parties to the transition, you told them it was imperative that they quickly reach agreement on a workable contingency rollback approach should problems arise. What is the status of your request? I appreciate your attention to this matter that is critical to the residents of Florida. Sincerely, BILL NELSON Ranking Member · cc: The Honorable John Thune, Chairman
