FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: May 10, 2013 Rebekah Goodheart (202) 418-2100 STATEMENT OF FCC COMMISSIONER MIGNON L. CLYBURN ON TECHNOLOGY TRANSITIONS POLICY TASK FORCE TRIALS “I am pleased that the Technology Transitions Policy Task Force is seeking comment on trials, which propose to carefully examine and collect data on the impact of technology transitions on consumers, public safety and competition. While technological advancements hold tremendous promise for all consumers, including persons with disabilities and low-income Americans, the Commission should explore all relevant issues to ensure that consumers are not harmed, that our networks are resilient and reliable, and that we continue to promote universal service and competition. As the first sentence of the Communications Act makes clear, the Commission’s critical mission includes ensuring that all Americans have access to communications services at reasonable charges and to promote the safety of life and property through the use of wire and radio communications. And, despite all the technological advancements over the last century, these fundamental missions are as important today as they were nearly 100 years ago.” - FCC -
