I urge the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to grant the E-Rate waiver
requested by the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District in Sault Ste.
Marie, Michigan. Should the FCC not grant the waiver, it will have a detrimental impact
on the school district's ability to provide a quality education in rural Northern Michigan.
On February 5, 2010, the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District submitted
an official appeal waiver request to the FCC. Within this submission, the school district
provides a timeline and detailed explanation as to how it inadvertently misinterpreted the
FCC rules for E-Rate funding requests. I encourage you to be fair and reasonable in your
review ofthe files submitted by the school district and to recognize that officials were
complying with the intent ofthe rules and can provide documentation to that fact.
