COPPS ON THE NAMING OF KAREN PELTZ STRAUSS AS DEPUTY CHIEF OF CONSUMER BUREAU I am so pleased that Chairman Genachowski has named Karen Peltz Strauss, a longtime advocate for disabilities rights issues, to the position of Deputy Chief of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau. Karen has worked for the past 25 years to make sure that the disabilities communities are not left behind as technology advances—ensuring that accessibility needs are met when it comes to communicating over the telephone, watching television and, her next task, accessing and using broadband. No doubt, Karen’s return to the Commission marks a new-found commitment by this agency to address the very important issue of accessibility for all. I look forward to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act this July with Karen here as we work together to implement the recommendations in the National Broadband Plan. That, indeed, will be something to celebrate. - FCC -
