1. We have before us a petition from RCN Corporation (“RCN”) for an extension of time to 
file opposition to the Petition for Stay by Montgomery County, Maryland (“Montgomery County”)1 of the 
Order granting special relief to RCN from Sections 601 and 605 of the Commission’s Rules.2 RCN has 
requested an extension until December 2, 2009, the date its opposition to the County’s Petition for 
Reconsideration is also due.
2. Motions for extensions of time are not routinely granted.3 Nevertheless, we do 
occasionally grant limited extensions of time when we find that the public interest would be served by 
doing so.  In this case, we believe that granting RCN’s motion is in the public interest.  Given the 
hardship experienced by counsel and that the requested extension will not interfere with the 
Commission’s ability to timely consider the petition for stay, we find that a modest seven-day extension is 
appropriate.  RCN further states that petitioner Montgomery County has consented to the extension.4  
RCN will therefore have up to and including Wednesday, December 2, 2009 to file its opposition to 
Montgomery County’s petition.
3. Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that, pursuant to Sections 4(i), 4(j) and 5(c) of the 
Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U.S.C. §§ 154(i), 154(j) and 155(c), and Sections 0.61, 
0.283, and 1.46 of the Commission’s rules, 47 C.F.R. §§ 0.61, 0.283, and 1.46, the date for RCN to file 
opposition to Montgomery County’s petition for stay of the Order granting RCN special relief IS 
EXTENDED to December 2, 2009.
