CORES Advanced Search Section Relationships

While we do not provide functionality allowing users to specify "AND/OR" searches, such restraints do exist on the Advanced Search Screen.

Data within the "Search by Registered Business" and "Search by Registered Individual" are assembled using an OR condition.

Data provided within any section other than "Search by Registered Business" and "Search by Registered Individual" is assembled using an AND condition.

For Example,

• If your search parameters specify an individual last name of "Smith" and a State of "New York", your search results will include all registrations with an individual last name of Smith AND a State of New York.
  
  
• If your search parameters specify a business name of "American*", an individual last name of "Smith", and a State of "New York", your search results will include any business names starting with "American" AND "New York" specified as the State, as well as (OR condition) any individuals with a last name of "Smith" AND "New York" specified as the State.

CORES Search Tips and Hints

The following tips and hints may assist you in performing search using either the CORES Simple Search or Advanced Search modules:

• The Wildcard character is your best friend - use it wisely. It can be used more than once (ex: Business Name search on America* W*) and should typically be included in most business name searches, as such searches return only exact matches. Thus, the wildcard character greatly expands your searching capabilities.
  
  
• Spaces between words and single letters matter! A business name search for U&S* returns differently if you add spaces in your search (ex: U & S*). Same goes for searches involving last names. (ex: McDonald vs. Mc Donald.)
  
  
• Use as many search parameters as possible. When you specify additional search parameters, you reduce the size of the resulting set of data returned to you. This will make the data easier to sort through, thus helping you easily and quickly find what you're looking for.
  
  
• On the Simple Search page, searches using Last Name will return any Individual registrations with a last name matching the search criteria, as well as any Individual or Business registrations with a contact last name matching the search criteria. If you wish to further refine this Last Name search, use the Advanced Search module to search for only an Individual entity's last name.
